Why a Hillside Home is the Perfect Dream

Tara Westover described mountains as a source of sovereignty where the perceptions of isolation and privacy mingle to create a life. The truth is mountain gives people a sense of life beyond modern human understanding because of the hustle and bustle of city life. It takes humanity back to the primitive and mirrors where it all started, in the cradle of nature. From the sunrise to the sunset, it is all about the changing sky views. Kaurava Kunda Hill has all of it to offer.

Only 3 km away from the beautiful farms at Chikkaballapur, Kaurava Kunda Hill is waiting with open arms to offer its beauty to the city folks who constantly crave the touch of nature for a long time. The farms are there to provide the luxuries of food, privacy, and seclusion. On the other hand, the hill offers majesty, view, and mental peace. You can’t ask for a better combination.

A Short History of Kaurava Kunda

Kaurava Kunda is more of a hidden gem situated 75 km away from Bengaluru city. It is in the Chikkaballapur area of Hariharapura Village. This hill has a mythological connection with Mahabharata. It is a hill with a single peak named “Kaurava Betta.” There is another one called “Pandava betta.” Kauravas embodies the offspring of the Kuru dynasty. It includes Pandavas as well and, therefore, the name Kaurava Kunda. There is also a Shiva temple at the midway when you walk towards the peak.

You will get a gorgeous view of Skandagiri Hills and Nandi Hills at the top of the peak. Seeing these beautiful mountain ranges beneath you is quite an adrenaline rush. That feeling gets elevated if you are lucky enough to see the sunrise or the sunset. If you are planning to practise smaller trekking before going on a big one, Kaurava Kunda is perfect. The distance from Bangalore is not too much. Also, the thorns, sandy paths, shrubs and steep slope of the hill will challenge you enough to bring out the adventurer in you. If you are a first-time climber, it is better to avoid the trek during monsoon because of its slippery nature.

Trekking on Kaurava Kunda Peak

According to the locals, September to February is the best time to trek on Kaurava Kunda. You will get a pleasant view of lush green surroundings, lakes and beautiful fields once you reach the top. If you are coming from Bangalore, start before 5 am to finish the track by time and reach the base of the hill before sunset. If you are lucky, you might get a glimpse of a cloud bed that covers the whole peak.

There are very few camping options near Bangalore, and Kaurava Kunda is one of those few. Many people prefer night treks. For that, one has to reach the peak by 6 pm and then camp overnight. The wide space at the hilltop makes it easier for the explorer to pitch the tent easily. However, if you are staying at one of the Adi Farms properties, you don’t have to run against the time like this. The 3km distance makes it easier for you to trek whenever you want. Enjoy a starry night with your loved ones at the top of the hill, and then return to the farm in the morning without any rush.

One can complete the trek within 30 to 40 minutes on a good day. On your way to the top, be aware of the slippery slopes. The small streams of water running over the rocks have made these slopes like this. Harihareshwara and Anantha Padmanabha are the two temples one will spot here. These work as good landmarks to start the journey. If you are an experienced bike rider, you can ride to the temples on your bike. This way, you will also get the flavour of both bike riding and trekking. Overall, it is also very time sufficient.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Visiting Kaurava Kunda Hill
  1. You might encounter monkeys on the way. Better to avoid them if you are carrying a packet or a backpack. They are living on the hill. So manage your pet-friendly expectations accordingly.
  2. The hill is more of a stony one with a rough surface. Therefore, wear comfortable yet durable shoes if you are planning to trek or visit.
  3. The botany of the hill makes it clear that thorny bushes and plants are a part of it. Don’t forget that.
  4. Hills are nature at its best. Therefore, don’t expect a five-star hotel treatment there. Carry some food and snacks with you according to the duration of your stay.
  5. Because of the height or walking, it is natural to feel thirsty. So, carry sufficient water with you for safety.
  6. Keep in mind that a flicker of a fire can turn into a wildfire in a second. Therefore, do not smoke or use fire on the hill to avoid any fire-related massacre.
  7. Nature-friendly choices are a must if you are going to enjoy nature in the long run. So, kindly carry back your plastics and garbage back with you. Many people destroy the ecology of these hills by treating the hills like dustbins.
